About Field Journal

Field Journal is a slow, quiet game made from your own notes. When you start, the game reads your material, picks a region that suits it (a cold coast, a river valley, a mountain plateau, warm terraced hills or a marsh) and plans a route through it with a guide. You travel on a hand-drawn map. Tap to walk to the next camp. There is no running around and nothing chasing you.

At each camp the guide, or someone who lives there, explains one part of your notes in a few short lines: a ferry pilot on the tides, a parish clerk with an old letter, a farmer measuring a field. Then they show you what they found. It might be a fern, a rock face, a sign in another language or a hill to measure. You answer your own study questions about it, and the find is drawn into your journal in ink, one stroke at a time.

If you get one wrong, the guide explains it again in a different way and writes a short note in the margin of your journal. The question comes back at the next camp. By the last camp the map is painted in, and the last page holds the guide's own note about the trip.

Field Journal is part of Premium, because each trip is written from your material when you start it. The trip is kept for your notes, so you can stop and carry on later, or walk the same route again.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Field Journal timed?

No. Nothing in Field Journal is timed. The guide waits while you read and answer, and walking to the next camp is one tap.

What happens when I answer wrong?

The guide explains the answer again in a different way and writes a note in the margin of your journal. The question comes back at the next camp. After three tries the answer stays shown so you can keep walking.

Where do the story and the people come from?

Each trip is written from the notes you uploaded. The people in it explain your own material, and the questions are your own study questions, word for word.

Do I need Premium?

Yes. Field Journal is part of Premium, because a whole trip is written from your material when you start it.

Can I stop and carry on later?

Yes. Your place on the route is saved on the device you play on, and the trip is kept for your notes, so opening the same notes again takes you back to the same route.
