About Super Pip

Super Pip is a classic pixel platformer built from your own study notes. You play Pip, who wears a purple beanie and round glasses, and who runs and jumps across the Inkwell Isles to get the Golden Book back from Baron Blot. You run, jump, stomp on enemies and dodge pits on the way to the flagpole at the end of each level. The twist is the ? blocks. Every ? block you bump from below asks you one question from your study set, and the whole world freezes while you read it.

Right answers are how you power up. Nothing is lying on the ground waiting to be grabbed. A right answer at a ? block grows Pip big, the next one gives Pip fireballs, and the one after that turns Pip rainbow, so enemies cannot hurt Pip for a short time. Quiz Gates are walls of glowing ? bricks that block the path, and they open only when you answer right. A wrong answer never costs you a try. You just miss the prize from that block, and a short explanation teaches you the right answer before you play on.

You start with five tries. Get hit while you are small, or fall into a pit, and you lose one, then you start again from the last checkpoint flag. Answer three questions right in a row and you earn an extra try. If you run out, you restart the level you are on with fresh tries, and the levels you already beat stay beaten. A world map links four levels: Meadow Run, Crystal Caves, Cloud Hop and Blot Castle. Some pipes lead to secret Star Rooms full of stars, and your score is counted in stars.

At the end of Blot Castle, Baron Blot waits on a bridge. You cannot stomp him, and fireballs bounce right off, so you beat him with books. Bump a Book Block, answer the question, and a giant book drops on his head. Three hits and the bridge falls. Nothing in Super Pip is timed. There is no level clock, and the game stops completely while a question is on screen, so you can read and think at your own pace. Your best score and the leaderboard are always there to beat.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Super Pip timed?

No. There is no level clock. The whole world freezes while a question is on screen, so enemies, platforms and fireballs all wait until you answer.

What happens if I answer a question wrong?

You do not lose a try. You miss the prize from that block, the explanation shows you the right answer, and your streak of right answers starts over. At a Quiz Gate, the next time you walk in you get a different question.

How do I get extra tries?

You start with five tries, and you lose one when you get hit while small or fall into a pit. Answer three questions right in a row to earn one more. That is the only way to get extra tries.

How do I beat Baron Blot?

Stomping and fireballs do nothing to him. Bump the Book Blocks above the bridge and answer the question. A right answer drops a giant book on him, and three hits end the fight. If you get one wrong, that block takes a short break and comes back with a new question.

Can I play Super Pip on my phone?

Yes. On a phone, on-screen buttons let you run, jump and throw fireballs, and you can turn your phone sideways for a bigger view. On a computer you use the arrow keys and the space bar.
